1-2-3 Done!™ Citronella Mosquito Repellent

Citronella The citronella is a scented geranium, and is also known as mosquito plant because of its ability to repel mosquitoes. Pot up a few containers for the deck or patio and enjoy the soft purple blooms and wonderful lemon-scent. You can also break a leaf, bend it and rub the oil on your skin for an all-natural topical insect repellent.

  1. Plant one or two biodegradable pots of Bonnie's mosquito plant in a large container, at least 12 inches apart.
  2. Ensure your soil is light and well drained, preferably on the dry side. Avoid too much fertilizer; excess nitrogen reduces the fragrance.
  3. Trim back this vigorous grower regularly, and shape into any form you choose.

by MoneyMoose on August 8, 2010 04:59
Hi, This was the first I heard of a plant that repel mosquitoes. We have a threat of mosquitoe disease for humans here in Florida. Our local hardware stores do not carry Citronella Geranium. Where else can I purchase it? Thank you, Money Moose

This doesn't smell like citronella, this has has nice pleasant fragrance. There are many other scented geraniums to enjoy also, rose, cinnamon, lemon, etc. Very pleasant scents to enjoy in the garden.
