A Modern Farmhouse Kitchen

When designing the kitchen at the Moss Mountain Farm Garden Home my thinking was to build out a farm theme in a fresh and modern way. It’s a combination of farm house style & classic with modern and vintage elements.

The principal colors are shades of white with a pale green on the walls as an accent.

The rafters on the ceiling are purely decorative. They bring in the farm house look. There are probably more lights than needed – 17 in all – but we do a lot of taping and photography in here so the additional light helps.

The windows have simple Roman shades. The fabric is linen in a soft green that echoes the color of the bead board.

The countertops bring spirit and warmth to the kitchen. I used two types of marble. I wanted the island to feel like an old fashioned drugstore counter top where you could pull up a seat and order an ice cream float.

The appliances are white enamel and stainless steel. The floors are 8-inch wide pine boards with a tung oil finish. Very basic.

Farm house sinks were a must for me. They are very deep so we can wash a lot of dishes.

An exposed brick wall adds soul to the room. It gives the appearance that the kitchen was added on the outside of the house.
