Although basil is typically relegated to the herb garden, I believe it should be used throughout the garden and in containers, too. Because basil has such a strong aromatic quality it's great for repelling flies and insects. This makes it nice to have around when you're working in the garden.
You might be surprised to know that there are many types of basil, everything from the tiny leafed spicy globe to those with purple ruffled leaves and, of course, the classic sweet basil that is used to enhance the flavor of so many recipes. And even though they have the same name and similar appearance, each type of basil has a distinct personality of its own.
