Hobby Farm Animals (with Audio)

I had the good fortune of spending the early years of my life on a farm. Now that I have a few acres of my own, I’m beginning to fill it with many of the animals I enjoyed in my youth. Let me introduce you to a few of them.

your farm animals

Just wanted to let you know I enjoyed the animal video. It brought back good memories. At one time my husband and i lived on a farm where we had 3 horses, 13 minature goats, 4 gekobie ducks, one mallard duck hatched and raised by our grandson, 5 cats, 6 dogs, and the unwanted animals on the farm were coyoties. It was a wonderful time in our lives. Enjoy your animals while you can. Sincerely, Daisy McDaniel

ants in the gardern

by paashi on July 11, 2008 11:17
Dear Allen, It brought a smile in my heart to see your farm animals. My chard plants in the vegetable garden have numerous ants over them. Could you suggest something organic to deal with this problem. I moved to Sacramento from Chicago and ants have been a challenge both indoor and outdoor. Thanks paashi

Allen, It was SO good to see the horses on your website! They are looking great. I can't believe how big Atticus has gotten. I bet he's a handful. You have a beautiful farm. I love receiving your newsletters, it is always informative and I love the recipes. Jennifer (former owner of the horses)

I love watching your show. It is inspiring and a bit overwhelming as I and my husband are the only ones who work on our small 1/3 acre. Who do you have to help you take care of all of this?

Droper sheep

by Karen Kelly on July 5, 2008 08:13
7/5/08 Allen, I listened to your message "Animals on the farm". I am interested in your White Faced Dorpers. I have been looking for a ram for my flock. I currently raise St. Croix hair sheep and wanted to add the Dorper White Face to my farm. If you have a breeding ram for sale, or know of anyone that has one, I would be interested in talking to them. I have located someone in Texas that may want to sell one. I live in Upstate South Car0lina, so it would be much closer for me to reach your area. Thanks for your help in this matter. Sincerely, Karen Kelly

As a Teacher of Agriculure, I too have been offered many once loved "pets" by my studens and parents. Assorted rabbits, chickens and household poultry seem to predominate. The loan of a LLama was also offered, but refused. Looking forward to future reports on your "Pets". John B. Weber Teacher of Agriculture

kunekune pigs

by Lori Enright on July 5, 2008 11:29
Hello, I just love your tv show and website. The animal segments are my favorite! Have you heard of the wonderful, little kunekune (kune kune) pig? These small and colorful swine of New Zealand are the perfect breed for small farms and make great pasture pigs. They are extremely rare in the United States and in need of our conservation efforts. There is no other breed that is more friendly and easy on the environment. Please continue to share any new additions to your Hobby Farm with us!

A Thank You and Appreciation

by Rosemary on July 5, 2008 09:00
Hello Allen, and Company Thank you, thank you!! This was the most welcome , touching, and endearing site as I began this day and saw your venture with your new "family." You have to be one happy and contented guy to have your very own animal sanctuary. I have always thought if I had the financial opportunity, and as I am now retired, that I would love to have such a private sanctuary. To be able to just walk to your own dedicated space where affectionate animals now live because a loving home was provided, has to be very satisfying and fulfilling for you. Those contented new buddies bring so much joy, fun, and happiness to those who know and receive the love and affection they give in return for the provision of a loving home to them. But be aware, Allen, there will be more "kids" coming as there is always a lonely, neglected, and needy new friend you will be told who needs a home. I believe that God created animals to teach us unconditional love. In my small home, I have two chihuahuas. Buddy is 12 yrs. and the other senior citizen, Tiny Tim, is now in his 19th year! I also rescued a year old cat (Abigail) from the shelter and a 5 wk old kitten (Lucy) from a yard sale. Both are now five and four years old. Also a 10 yr. old parakeet (Frisky) that was no longer wanted by a teenager, and Frisky is now 14 yrs. old. Like you, I love the companionship of my furry and feathered friends, as does my husband. If we owned our own home, and had an acre or two, we too would have a little sanctuary. So I do thank you for sharing with us in such a homey way, and adding this delightful "home" to your website. I will look forward to your sharing more. This is how I have always envisioned you to be...a wonderfully kind and caring man who is gifted with many talents in various ways. I appreciate all you offer on your TV programs and I am a fan of yours. Enjoy your time with your kids and may God always bless all you do. Sincerely, Rosemary M. Hagen

Dear Allen~ We have lived in a small community which is approximately 30 miles from Tulsa, OK. We moved here 17 years ago to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Big City of Tulsa! {g} Here, we have a lot of land which we share with wanted and well.........unwanted critters. Someone needs to tell us how to humanely rid our attic of raccoons.........Ugh!! Both of us are jealous of your horses, and Moose, too! Atticus is a name that should be given to a proud horse, as Atticus Finch was a grand and glorious character in "To Kill A Mockingbird." One of my favorite childhood books!!! As a licensed wild bird rehabilatator, I love all song birds! We feed them all over our land ~ naturally, and with natural additions such as Sunflower seeds, suet, simple syrup for the Hummers, and a compost pile filled with the remains of a vegetarian diet.....apple cores seem to go quickly! Thank you for sharing your critter-friendly farm with all of us! As the daughter of a "Southern Belle" born and reared in Mississippi, I love to hear your accent. It reminds me of my late Mom....... By the way, we feed our own dogs, feral cats, and any critter that wanders onto our land! We're suckers for All Creatures Great and Small!!! Bless you for all the good you do!

Thank you for sharing your animal friends with us and telling us about them. I espcially love your dogs are they "Rat Terriers"? Your feathered friends were very interesting to - very different looking! It is wonderful how much you think of your animals and obviously take GOOD care of them. The horses were cute! I am a senior citizen who has had a stroke so my contact with others is limited. I know the animals are hard work but KEEP IT UP! BLESSINGS to you. Judy

I'm pleased to see you have hair sheep. I raise registered Katahdins and they're so easy to keep compared with the wooly kind. I've had both and I'll never have wool sheep again!! www.aspensheep.com is my sheep website.
