An Orchid Arrangement for Everyday Use

One of the things that I love about orchids is they are chameleons.  An orchid can change its style according to its container or companion plants.  Put an orchid in a silver urn and it's perfect for a table at a formal dinner party.  Place the same orchid in a simple glazed pot to decorate the kitchen or bath.  An orchid will make any container stylish and I mean any container.

The container used in this arrangement is actually a trash basket.  That's right!  It's a decorative waste basket I found at a local discount store.

Orchid Plants and Tall Sticks...

by Joette on January 2, 2010 07:13
Hi Allen... You soooo right about the use of orchids. What you are displaying above, if purchased from a Retail Florist Shop already made up, will cost a person anywhere from $65-$125 (Depending on what area of the country you live in). These Orchid arrangements are so simple to make and can be purchased in their growers pots at your local Nursery, Trader Joe's, etc... For under $20 each or less. The "tall sticks" pictured above are called Kiwi Branches and can be purchased at your local Craft Stores in the dried section (near the Sheet Moss and Styrofoam). Raffia makes a nice, simple and natural way to attach the Orchids the the tall sticks for staking. Just use small pieces of the raffia, tie knots anywhere they need support along the sticks and trim excess raffia for a clean look. These beautiful arrangements will display anywhere, in any container and make a HUGE/Magnificent statement! Thanks for all of your FABULOUS ideas and tips... This one will save those who make this arrangement at home a bundle of $$$! =)
