I want to grow Rhubarb in Chesapeake, VA. I've heard that you should harden then by putting them in the refrigerator for a week or so because it doesn't get cold enough here. Thanks for your time.

Tecnnically tomatoes are fruits, but are used as a veggie.Tomatoes are the ONLY veggie(fruit) I plant in my garden. I use the Earth Box system - I have 3 and use the automatic watering system. Love It !!

I have always thought of tomatoes as a vegetable. They are planted, harvested
and enjoyed with all the other vegetables.

It is a fruit that is treated as a vegetable! (Just like a perennial that is treated as an annual!)

Is the TOMATO a fruit or a vegetable? LETTUCE us ponder this dilemma. I would say it is a PEACH of a vegetable but others would say it is a fruit and there might be sour GRAPES. So, I decided to SQUASH this by sending you a CORNY response. Be the APPLE of my eye and PEAS select this answer for your contest!

Tomatoes will always be a vegetable to me. The explanation given above about the blooms; so squash, eggplants and many other vegetables that come from blooms are fruit?

Who cares if they are fruit or vegetable. Homegrown tomatoes are
just absolutely the best-tasting food you can put in your mouth! I wish I had one right now!

To me tomatoes will always be success.I never thought I could grow anything eatable. But through your website I have used the tips to help me grow cherry tomatoes that were actually yummy.I grew these in containers and come to think of it ,they were so good and sweet that they reminded me of the best fruit I have ever eaten.

Hi Allen:

Well even though a tomato is really a fruit botanically speaking it serves our table well as a vegetable in salads, lasagnas, soups and just plain for eating out of hand.

I would classify it as a veggiefruit.

Love to you and Marge

This question has been going on for more than 30 years in my household, I say, forget the fact that they have seeds so they have to be a fruit, a tomato is a fruit because the 100 sweets are popped in my mouth like a fruit and the other tomatos I grow I also eat like a fruit, but when they reach my kitchen, they turn into a vegetable.

A tomato is a fruit, I've been told, 'cause it continues to ripen after it's picked, as fruits do. Are there any veggies that do that??

I believe the classification came from way back when it was believed red fruit could be poisonous (remember Adam & Eve); however, modern man now just cannot get enough of this delicious edible vegetable. Now, if scientist could only figure out how to grow a big great tasting summer-type tomato year round -- that would be the true discovery.
