I grew three heirloom varieties this year. Black Krim, German Queen and Mr. Stripy. The German Queen tomatoes were ginormous. Black Krim was intensely sweet. My favorite was Mr. Stripy.

Have you tried Homer Fike's Yellow Oxhearts? They are a delicious, very large yellowish (more like cantaloupe) color and sweet...very little acid. I grew one this year that took two hands to hold, and had to be 2 1/2 - 3 lbs! Fabulous, but finicky once picked, they bruise very easily, but worth the effort! A thick slice between two slices of nice bread, and dinner is served!

I have grown the Cherokee Purple and they are delicious. The other two I have never seen at the nurseries in our area of N FL so I am assuming that they don't do well here. I have always enjoyed the heirloom varieties and have grown a French heirloom and a German heirloom as well as many others. They are much tastier IMO. I really do enjoy your blog.

The Cherokee Purple are most beautiful. I don't believe I've ever had that variety. I would really like to know the story behind the name of the Mortgage Lifter? Very interesting and they all look delicious ;)
