Cinnamon Apple Chips
You don't need a fancy dehydrator to make these yummy dried apple chips. Choose an apple that will hold its shape like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp. The simple syrup adds a little extra sweet and helps the apples to crisp up better. If you don't like cinnamon try ginger, allspice or just leave them plain.
To make the simple syrup combine the water and sugar in a sauce pan. Heat until the sugar is dissolved, but don't bring to a boil. Set aside while you prepare the apples.
Slice the with a mandoline. If you are skilled with a knife you can use one, but the slices need to be paper thin. Squeeze a lemon over the apples to prevent browning.
Cover the apple slices with the simple syrup to soak for an hour or two.
Pull the apples from the syrup and shake off excess.
Place slices on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
Bake in a 220 degree F oven for an hour and a half. They are ready when they are golden.
Apple chips keep for a month or two in an air tight container. Freeze for later use.
Time to prepare: 2 hours.
